A Clincial Psychologist is a Doctoral educated individual licensed by the State of South Carolina with specialized and extensive training specifically in the field of psychology, to include four years of of undergraduate psychology education, four years of doctoral education in Clinical Psychology with supervised practicum training, a one year supervised pre-doctoral internship , a one year supervised post-doctoral residency and one year of clincial supervision prior to sitting for licensure, which includes testing and oral exams. All together, the education and training, as well as ongoing yearly continuuing education, is approximately 11 years prior to practicing independently. No other field in mental health comes even close to the extensive quality of education and training required of psychologists.
